LEXINGTON, Ky. – After a fifth-place finish in the first tournament of the season, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team returns to action Sept. 21-22 in Zionsville, Ind., at the Wolf Run Invitational.
The Wolf Run Golf Club has been the host site for this tournament since it opened in 2006. This will be the Wildcats’ seventh appearance; while Kentucky’s best finish came in 2006 when head coach Brian Craig’s squad won the tournament. The course is a par-71 (35-36) layout with a total distance of 7,155 yards.
Last season at the invitational, UK finished fifth as a team, while Stephen Powers was the top individual in a tie for 15th.
“Wolf Run is possibly our team’s favorite golf course of the year,” Craig said. “It is simply a brilliant design and a remarkable test of golf. You can learn how to play golf on a course like Wolf Run and we are privileged to have the chance to compete on this venue. We played solid golf last week and I am looking forward to showing improvement in our second outing of the fall season.”
The Wildcats are coming off a top-five performance in the season-opening tournament Sept. 6-8 at the Northern Intercollegiate. UK finished at 19-over par as a team, while junior David Snyder led the way, playing as an individual, tying for ninth at one-over par for the weekend. Powers and senior Ben Stow also claimed top 20 finishes at two-over and five-over par, respectively.
Kentucky’s lineup in Indiana will be led by Snyder along with Powers, Stow, senior Cody Martin, sophomores Harrison Greenberry and Todd McDaniel.
The 54-hole stroke-play tournament will begin on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. The teams are scheduled to play 36 holes and will begin with a shotgun start. The invitational will wrap up on Sunday with the final round of 18 at 8:30 a.m. All times are Eastern.
Kentucky is one of 13 teams in the field featuring: Auburn, Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana, IUPUI, IPFW, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Oakland, Ohio, Toledo and Wisconsin.
There will be no live scoring of the event this weekend. For more information on the University of Kentucky men’s golf team please visit UKathletics.com and follow on twitter @UKmensgolf.
