Men's Golf

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team will look to claim another top five finish, as the Wildcats return to the course Oct. 14-15 for the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic in Duluth, Ga.

The Berkeley Hills Country Club will once again host the two-day, 54-hole tournament. This marks the third year of the event, which is hosted by Georgia State, and second appearance for Kentucky. UK finished seventh in 2011 and former Wildcat Chase Parker holds the second-lowest first round score of 69. The course is a par-72 (36-36) layout with a total distance of 6,694 yards.

“We have had a little over two weeks off to prepare for the AutoTrader.com event,” said Kentucky head coach Brian Craig. “I know the guys are ready to get back out and compete against players other than themselves. The tournament course, Berkeley Hills CC, demands a different kind of game than most courses we play. It is a thinking man’s course with strategy, particularly approach strategy, at a premium. Patience and discipline will be tested and we need to pass the test to play like we are capable.”

The Wildcats have notched two top five finishes in their first two tournaments of the season. Kentucky placed fifth in the season-opening tournament at the Northern Intercollegiate and third at the Wolf Run Invitational. UK has placed at least one individual in the top 10 in each of the first two tournaments.

Kentucky’s lineup in Georgia will be led by seniors Ben Stow, Cody Martin and Stephen Powers, juniors Will Bishop and David Snyder and sophomore Harrison Greenberry.

The 54-hole stroke-play tournament will begin on Monday at 8:30 a.m. The teams are scheduled to play 36 holes and will begin with a shotgun start. The tournament will conclude Tuesday with the final round of 18 and tee times beginning at 8 a.m. off the first and tenth tees. All times are Eastern.

Kentucky is one of 14 teams in the field featuring: Chattanooga, Furman, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Mercer, Michigan, Ole Miss, South Alabama, South Florida, Troy, UNC Greensboro, USC Aiken and VCU.

Atlanta-based AutoTrader.com, created in 1997, lent its name to the tournament. AutoTrader.com is the Internet’s ultimate automotive marketplace and consumer information website.
