LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky gymnastic team will host an intrasquad meet Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the team’s training facility at Nutter Field House. The event is free and open to the public.
“Monday’s intrasquad will be the first real test of the season for our team,” third-year head coach Tim Garrison said. “We’ll have a better idea of where we stand for the upcoming season tomorrow evening.”
The Wildcats, who finished 21st in the national rankings last season, return 14 gymnasts from the 2013 squad that posted the program’s highest-ever NCAA Regional team score of 195.575. UK earned a Regional bid with a school-record regional qualifying score of 196.06 and notched three wins against SEC opponents, the most in program history.
The team holds its annual Blue/White Intrasquad meet on Dec. 10 in Memorial Coliseum, which begins at 6 p.m. and is free to the public. The 2014 campaign officially kicks off at home with Excite Night at the Kentucky Classic on Jan. 10. As part of the four-team event, UK hosts Penn State, West Virginia and Ball State at 7 p.m.
UK returns to Lexington on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. to face Florida, the defending NCAA and SEC champion. The meet against the Gators will be the annual Pink Out at Memorial Coliseum. On Feb. 28, Kentucky hosts Auburn before the Wildcats welcome California and Centenary to Memorial Coliseum on March 7 for senior night, both at 7 p.m.
