BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team claimed its fourth top-five finish of the season after placing third at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic on Saturday. Due to the possibility of inclement weather on Sunday, the tournament played the final 36 holes on Saturday in which UK posted rounds of 10-over par, 298, in the second round and finishing the day with an 11-over par, 299.

For the tournament, UK shot a 35-over par, 899, to finish in third place. Arkansas won the team championship at 18-over par, 882, while UCF (+26), LSU (+41) and Purdue (+42) complete the top five. Three players tied for first place with a three-under par, 213, but Arkansas’ Gaby Lopez won in a playoff to take the individual title.

Rounding out the rest of the team standings were Tulane (+43), UTSA (+45), Baylor (+49), Denver (+51), SMU (+53), Notre Dame (+55), Missouri (+67), TCU (+68), UNCW (+74) and Louisiana-Monroe (+85).

“Today was a long day for us and we handled it well for the most part,” said head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “The girls did a good job of controlling their emotions, but I think they got a bit mentally tired towards the end. Overall, we can take a lot of positives from this tournament as we managed this tough course well. I look forward to heading home so we can keep working on our games to get ready for the next event.”

For the second straight tournament, freshman Haley Mills posted a top 12 finish. The Tyler, Texas, native placed seventh with a four-over par, 220, marking her second top 10 finish of the season. Mills posted rounds of one-over par, 73, and two-over par, 74, on Saturday. She finished the tournament with a team-best nine birdies.

Senior Liz Breed had a solid day for UK by posting rounds of 73 (+1) and 74 (+2) on Saturday to finish tied for 13th. Breed had a final score of eight-over par, 224, to record her fourth top 15 finish and first of the spring season. Sophomore Sarah Harris also claimed a top 20 finish by tying for 17th with a 10-over par, 226. Harris carded back-to-back rounds of 75 (+3) in the final two rounds.

Freshman Alessandra Walker came in 32nd with a 13-over par, 229. Walker posted a five-over par, 77, to begin the day and wrapped up the tournament with a final round of four-over par, 76. Sophomore Cylia Damerau had a tough day for the Wildcats, finishing tied for 72nd at 29-over par, 245. The Cham, Switzerland, native scored a seven-over par, 79, in the second round and finished the day with a 12-over par, 84.

Playing as an individual, freshman Megan Kinney tied for 65th with a 24-over par, 240. Kinney recorded second round score of nine-over par, 81, followed by a final round of seven-over par, 79.
