LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 47 University of Tennessee dealt the University of Kentucky women’s tennis team their second consecutive loss at home, Sunday afternoon at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Center. Kentucky, ranked 28th nationally, fell to the Volunteers, 4-3.
Kentucky duo, Nadia Ravita and Aldila Sutjiadi, got Kentucky’s first win of the day at No. 2 doubles and gave the Wildcats an advantage for the doubles point. The Jakarta, Indonesia natives defeated Eve Repic and Laurence Guevremont, 8-3. Edmée Morin-Kougoucheff and Kirsten Lewis clawed away at a 3-1 deficit and were on top of the Volunteers, 6-4, when senior tandem, Caitlin McGraw and Cece Witten, won their match at the No. 1 doubles position and sealed the point for Kentucky.
Singles play was a see-saw affair for the Wildcats. Brittany Lindl was the first Volunteer to get on the with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 4 singles position over Lewis. Both teams tied at one-all, Sutjiadi put Kentucky back on top with a convincing win over Joanna Henderson. She knocked off the junior, 6-2, 6-3. Kentucky didn’t hold the lead for long. Ravita fell short of the win against Repic at No. 1 singles and Tennessee once again tied the match. Forcing a tiebreak set at the No. 3 position, Kelsey Dieters came out with the victory. In a match that lasted over two hours, Dieters’ endurance led her to a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Guevremont and put the Wildcats at match point. Tennessee responded with two back-to-back wins to claim the match.
Kentucky falls to 14-6 (4-4 SEC) for the season. The Wildcats will return to the Boone Tennis Center, Friday, March 28 when they take on Auburn University, who is ranked 20th in the nation. The match will begin at 11 a.m. and is free to attend.
