LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team begins postseason play this weekend with a trip to Hoover, Ala., for the SEC Championship. The three-day, 54-hole tournament begins Friday, April 18 and wraps up Sunday, April 20 at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.
Last Time Out:
The Wildcats are coming off a seventh place finish at the Rebel Intercollegiate, where UK posted a team score of 19-over par, 883. Freshman Haley Mills recorded her fourth top 20 finish of the season by tying for 16th with a four-over par, 220. Sophomore Sarah Harris just missed a top 20 placing after tying for 25th with a score of 6-over par, 222.
Breed leads the team with a season scoring average of 73.67 and two top 10 finishes. Mills ranks second with a 73.75 scoring average and two top 10 finishes as well. As a team, Kentucky has four top five finishes through eight tournaments.
About the SEC Championship:
Alabama returns to Greystone as the defending SEC Champions after winning the 2013 event by 14 strokes. UK’s Sarah Harris was the individual runner-up with a score of 9-over par, 225. Liz Breed also finished in the top 10 by tying for sixth at 11-over par, 227. As a team, the Wildcats placed fifth at the 2013 SEC Championship. Eighteen holes will be played Friday through Sunday, with fixed tee times on holes No. 1 and No. 10 starting at 9 a.m. ET each day. The Greystone Course will feature a par-72, 6,037-yard setup.
The Field:
All 14 SEC teams will be in action over the weekend with seven of the teams ranked in the top 25, including No. 4 Arkansas, No. 6 South Carolina, No. 7 Alabama, No. 13 Vanderbilt, No. 16 LSU, No. 19 Florida and No. 22 Auburn.
