ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – A round of 5-under par, 65, moved junior David Snyder into the top five on the final day of the 2014 Men’s Golf Southeastern Conference Championship at the Sea Island Golf Club. The University of Kentucky men’s golf team placed eighth overall with a final team score of 4-over par, 844.

The Wildcats carded the fourth-lowest team round on Sunday with a 7-under par, 273. No. 1 Alabama won the team title for the third straight year with a team score of 34-under par, 806, while No. 22 LSU (-18), Auburn (-11), No. 6 Georgia (-7) and No. 24 South Carolina (-2) completed the top five. Alabama’s Bobby Wyatt was the individual champion after shooting an 18-under par, 192. 

Rounding out the rest of the team standings were Missouri (+2), No. 21 Arkansas (+2), UK (+4), No. 16 Texas A&M (+9), Mississippi State (+9), No. 15 Vanderbilt (+12), Tennessee (+19), Florida (+19) and Ole Miss (+35).

“We played well today with David Snyder leading the way with a terrific 65,” said Kentucky head coach Brian Craig. “It was nice to see Harri (Greenberry) bounce back with a 70 today as well. We are putting pressure on the course and I love to see that as we move into NCAA Regional play. We have a few things to sharpen up but I like this team and look forward to seeing what we can do in the postseason.”

Snyder started the day tied for 15th at even par, but saved his best round of golf for the final day with a 5-under par, 65. The Somerset, Ky., native tied for fifth place at 5-under par, 205 (69-71-65), marking his second top-five finish and fourth top 10 finish of the season. He finished the day with four birdies, an eagle and just one bogey. His final round score of 65 also marks a season best.

Senior Ben Stow was one of three Wildcats to post under par rounds on Sunday, finishing with a 1-under par, 69. Stow tied for 26th at 1-over par, 211 (71-71-69), for the tournament. The Salisbury, England, native tallied four birdies on the day, including three on the back nine.

The third UK player to record an under par round was senior Cody Martin who also carded a 1-under par, 69. Martin finished the tournament tied for 36th at 5-over par, 215 (75-71-69). Senior Stephen Powers turned in a final round of 4-over par, 74, to place in a tie for 56th at 9-over par, 219 (74-71-74).

After a tough second round, sophomore Harrison Greenberry regrouped to shoot an even par, 70, on Sunday. Greenberry finished in 62nd place at 12-over par, 222 (73-79-70).
