HUTCHINSON, Kan. – University of Kentucky men’s golf seniors Ben Stow, Stephen Powers and Cody Martin led the way over the course of four days at the 2014 NCAA Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club to a tie for 18th place finish at 17-over par, 857. The Wildcats finished third round play Monday morning with their best round of the tournament at 3-over par, 283.

No. 3 Stanford will go into match play as the No. 1 seed after leading the team standings at 13-under par, 827, while No. 1 Alabama (-4), No. 16 LSU (-4), No. 2 Oklahoma State (E), No. 4 Georgia Tech (+1), No. 21 UCLA (+4), SMU (+5) and No. 9 Illinois (+5) finished in the top eight to advance to match play beginning Tuesday morning. Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans was the NCAA Individual Champion after posting a 6-under par, 204.

“I am happy for our seniors Stephen, Ben and Cody to finish off their careers on a positive note,” said UK head coach Brian Craig. “As a team, we did not quite play our best, but this NCAA Championship at Prairie Dunes has been a fantastic experience. What a way for Stephen to finish his career with a brilliant 67 today. All three of our seniors have bright futures ahead of them, not just as golfers, but as positive members of society.”

Stow posted his second straight round with a 1-over par, 71, to finish the tournament. The Salisbury, England, native tied for 29th at even par, 210, in the championship. Stow finished his senior season with five top-10 finishes, which ranks second on the team and an individual title at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.

Powers finished tied for 29th with Stow at even par, 210, following a team-best 3-under par, 67, in the third round. A native of Naperville, Ill., Powers led the team with six top-10 finishes this season and nine total top-20 finishes.

Martin carded a 1-over par, 71, for the second straight round to finish the tournament 8-over par, 218, and tied for 89th. He finishes his senior campaign with four total top-20 finishes, including two top 10.

Juniors David Snyder and Will Bishop rounded out the UK lineup tied for 109th and 136th, respectively. Snyder carded a 4-over par, 74, to finish the third round Monday morning for a final score of 10-over par, 220. Bishop shot 7-over par, 77, in the third round and was 17-over par, 227, for the championship.
