LEXINGTON, Ky. — After working seven shutout innings on Saturday, Kentucky sophomore right-hander Kyle Cody has been named Coca Cola’s Cape Cod League Pitcher of the Week, it was announced.

A native of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Cody worked seven-shutout, three-hit innings in a win over Falmouth on Saturday. The 6-foot-7, 240-pounder allowed just one walk and struck out six in his third start of the year. Cody has a 1-2 record and a 3.17 ERA in 11.1 innings in the Cape Cod League, striking out 13.

Cody was named Coca Cola’s Pitcher of the Week in the CCBL, with Georgia Tech first baseman/outfielder AJ Murray named CCBL Player of the Week.

Jason Inghram (William & Mary) and Ian Happ (Cincinnati) were named CCBL Players of the Week to open the summer, with Johnathan Frebis (Middle Tennessee State) and Donnie Dewess (North Florida) earning the honors in week two.

Cody finished 2014 with a 4-0 record and a 2.84 ERA in 18 games and six starts, despite missing 21 days due to injury in the middle of the season. UK’s Sunday starter to open the first three weeks, Cody then missed three weeks, before returning the mound in a relief role. He finished with five saves, tossing 38 innings, walking just 13 and striking out 20.

The seventh-best sophomore in the preseason by Baseball America, Cody has appeared in 33 games with 16 starts, owning a 7-3 record and a 4.05 ERA, tossing 95.2 innings, walking 33 and striking out 67. As a freshman, Cody worked his way into the SEC rotation late in the year, finishing with a 3-3 record and a 4.84 ERA in 57.2 innings, striking out 47.

Cody is joined in the Cape Cod League by sophomore outfielder Kyle Barrett and sophomore southpaw Ryne Combs. Barrett ranks eighth in the CCBL in average, while playing with the Harwich Mariners, batting .327 (18-for-55) with a double, two RBI and five steals.

A native of Douglasville, Ga., Barrett ran up an eight-game hitting streak from June 17 to June 27, also recording a 4-for-4 game with a steal on June 14. In his two-year UK career, Barrett has hit .300 (90-for-300) in 92 games, with 10 doubles, one triple, one homer, 33 RBI and 14 steals.

Combs has appeared in six games in relief for Orleans, owning a 1-0 record in nine games, saving one game, walking 10 and striking out seven. Combs opened his summer with two shutout innings on June 12, before getting a two-inning win on June 18 and a three-inning save on June 21, not allowing a run in the two outings. Combs has appeared in 32 games with six midweek starts in his two-year UK career, owning a 1-2 record and a 4.72 ERA in 55.1 innings.
