Notre Dame vs. Kentucky
(Sunday only)
NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Kentucky men’s soccer team will face the past two National Champions, Indiana and Notre Dame, in consecutive matches over three days this weekend as part of the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament.
Kentucky will begin the tournament on Friday with first kick vs. No. 17 Indiana slated for 5 p.m ET at Alumni Stadium. No. 2 Notre Dame will square off against Dartmouth at 7:30 p.m.
The tournament concludes on Sunday when the Wildcats face Notre Dame at 2 p.m after IU faces Dartmouth at 11:30 a.m.
Kentucky is coming off a win over Belmont last Sunday, which opened the Wendell and Vickie Bell Soccer Complex. The Wildcats are 1-1 this year, after dropping the regular-season-opener on Friday, 1-0, at Wright State.
Indiana is 23-1-3 all-time against UK. The last meeting between the two was in 2012, a 4-1 victory for the Hoosiers at UK.
Notre Dame leads the all-time series with UK 4-0. Sunday’s match will be the first meeting between UK and Notre Dame since the Fighting Irish won 2-0 during the 1992 season in Lexington.
UK got two second-half goals, from Kristopher Tollefsen and Ryan Creel respectively in the win over Belmont last weekend. Tollefsen’s goal was the first of his UK career.
Ryan Creel clinched the result for UK with his second career score. Charlie Reymann also impressed vs Belmont as he assisted Creel’s goal after he took the corner that led to Tollefsen’s flourish.
Junior goalkeeper Callum Irving, a preseason All-Conference USA selection, has played all 180 minutes in goal for the Wildcats this year, allowing one goal for a 0.50 GAA, with five saves and a shutout.
Irving’s shutout vs. Belmont was the eight of his career, moving him into eighth in UK history in terms of clean sheets.
