LEXINGTON, Ky. — After setting a Kentucky freshman record with 154 receiving yards on Saturday at Florida, wide receiver Garrett Johnson has been tabbed the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, it was announced on Monday night during SEC Now on the SEC Network.

A native of Winter Garden, Fla., Johnson set a new UK freshman record with his 154 yard receiving game at Florida on Saturday. Johnson finished with six catches, with his 60-yard TD strike and his 33-yard TD catch giving UK the lead in the second half.

A 5-foot-11, 176-pounder, Johnson is the first UK freshman with two touchdown grabs in a game since Randall Cobb vs. Arkansas in 2008. Johnson’s 154 yards are the most for a UK player since Cobb had 171 yards vs. Mississippi State in 2010.

On the year, Johnson has played in all three games for the Wildcats, owning nine catches for 179 yards, a 19.9 per catch average, with 59.7 yards receiving per game.

Johnson’s explosive game for the Wildcats on Saturday helped UK throw for 369 yards, the most passing yards allowed by the Florida defense since the 2007 season. UK’s 300-yard passing game was just the second allowed by the Gators since 2008.

Johnson was also honored by 247Sports as the third-best performance by a true freshman in college football during the week. He was also named as an honorable mention for Wide Receiver Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards.

The SEC weekly accolade is the second of the year for the Wildcats through three weeks, as sophomore center Jon Toth was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week after leading UK to a 59-14 win over UT Martin.
