Women's Basketball

Oct. 9, 2014

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team wrapped up its sixth practice of the 2014 preseason on Thursday morning at the Joe Craft Center in Lexington, Ky. Head coach Matthew Mitchell who enters his eighth season at the helm of the Wildcats, liked how the Wildcats are going about their business of prepping for the 2014-15 season.

“How we go about things really define who we are going to be this season,” Mitchell said. “We are trying to be the most disruptive team in the country, we’re trying to be the fastest team in the country, we’re trying to be the toughest team in the country and that’s who we want to be. So, how you practice those things are so important.”

Kentucky’s up-tempo style of play and signature “40 minutes of dread” defense has wreaked havoc for opponents over the past five seasons. The Wildcats have ranked in the top five nationally in turnover margin, having forced more than 800 turnovers in four of the last five seasons. Since 2009-10, UK has compiled an impressive 118-27 record when forcing more turnovers than the opponent, and the Wildcats have appeared in a school-record five-straight NCAA Tournaments.
