VERO BEACH, Fla. – Freshman Tyler `Chip’ McDaniel fired a 7-under par, 137, and is tied for first place after two rounds of play at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational on Monday afternoon to lead the Kentucky men’s golf team. The Wildcats sit in sixth place with a total team score of 6-under par, 570, and are just six strokes off the lead entering the final round of competition.
“I am proud of the guys for their effort today,” UK coach Brian Craig said. “We just kept hanging around all day and have a chance going into the final round. Tyler McDaniel really stepped up today as well. This team needs him and it was nice to see him deliver.”
McDaniel logged a 5-under, 67, in the opening round before posting a 70 in round two. The freshman from Manchester, Ky., registered 11 birdies during the two rounds. His opening round score of 67 ties for the team lead for the best round of golf by any individual thus far this season.
