No. 26 UK Opens ITA Indoor Championships vs. Top-Seeded UCLA

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 26 Kentucky women’s tennis team makes its return to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Indoor Championships, Feb. 6-9 in Charlottesville, Va.
The Wildcats (7-1), making their first ITA National Indoor Championships appearance since 2005, open play Friday with a first-round matchup vs. No. 1 UCLA (3-0) at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Kentucky enters the 16-team tournament having won seven in a row. UK advanced to Nationals with a pair of upset wins at ITA Kickoff Weekend, Jan. 24-25. Kentucky, ranked No. 44 at the time, opened with a win over No. 21 Rice, 4-0, before beating No. 32 Arizona State, 4-2.
In addition to the two upset wins, UK also downed No. 46 Illinois on Feb. 3 en route to its seven match winning streak. During the run, freshman Mami Adachi earned back-to-back Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors, on Jan. 28 and Feb. 4.
Following the four-day ITA tournament, UK returns home on Feb. 15 to host Tulane at Noon and Eastern Kentucky at 6 p.m.
