San Jose del Cabo, Mexico – Led by the freshmen tandem of Cooper Musselman and Tyler ‘Chip’ McDaniel, the Kentucky men’s golf steam surged up the leaderboard into a tie for eighth place on the second day of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate Tournament on Monday.
Musselman carded an even-par 71 and McDaniel tallied a 1-over par 72. The duo sits in a tie for 23rd overall with a 36-hole total of 2-over par.
The field consists of 11 top 50 ranked teams and the Wildcats own leads over seventh-ranked LSU and No. 39 Arkansas. No. 12 South Florida leads the field after totaling a 1-under par 283 in day two. Kentucky is within four strokes of a top-five finish having scored a 4-over par 288 in round two. UK (+10) trails No. 13 Wake Forest (+6), No. 11 Vanderbilt (+6) and No. 35 Houston (+7). No. 9 Baylor and No. 47 Ole Miss are tied with Kentucky at 10-over par.
In addition to Musselman and McDaniel, sophomore Stephen Stallings had a breakout round with a 1-over par 72. His 36-hole score sits at 3-over par and he is tied for 30th overall in the tournament.
UK’s day one leader, junior David Snyder, shot a 2-over par 73 and is tied for 30th through two rounds. He’s at 3-over par for the tournament.
The tournament is a par-71 and will play at 6,869 yards on the final day of play. The teams will play the final 18 holes Tuesday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET.
