Three Wildcats Inside of Top-25 Heading into Final Round
PINEHURST, N.C. – Despite blustery conditions adding to the test of one of the best courses in the country, three Kentucky men’s golfers sit inside the top 25 on the individual leaderboard following two rounds of play at the Wake Forest Invitational at Pinehurst No. 2 on Monday. The Wildcats are in 10th as a team.
Sophomore Campbell Kremer fired rounds of 74-74, while graduate student Jacob Cook posted rounds of 78-70 and both are tied for 15th to lead the way for the Wildcats. Senior Garrett Wood is tied for 21st behind rounds of 74 and 76.
No team or player managed to finish the day under par as Pinehurst showed its teeth to the field. Clemson ended the day in first at 20-over par, with Duke 11 shots back for second place. East Carolina fired a 32-over par combined which was good for third place. The Wildcats are in 10th with a 48-over-par combined score.
Kremer provided the steady play throughout the opening day with a pair of 74s. After opening with a round of 78 to begin the tournament, Cook earned the team’s best round of the day with an even-par 70 during the second 18. He generated five birdies on the afternoon, including one at his final hole of the day to get back to even par.
Sophomore Jackson LaLonde tied for 64th with rounds of 84 and 86. Junior Alex Goff is 66th overall. He fired a 76 during the opening round, but his second-round score was disqualified with an invalid scorecard. He will be able to return to action for the Wildcats during Tuesday’s final round.
Junior Jay Kirchdorfer, playing as an individual, had rounds of 83 and 77 and capped the day tied for 59th.
Kentucky will tee off from the No. 10 beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats will be paired alongside Wake Forest and Yale.
