No. 20 UK Earns Second Win of Weekend and 11th Home Victory

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 20 University of Kentucky women’s team won its second match of the weekend with a 6-1 victory over Missouri on Sunday.
The Wildcats improve to 14-6 on the year and 5-2 in the Southeastern Conference with their 11th home victory of the season. With two home contests still remaining, UK matched last season’s home win total on Sunday.
“It was a well-played match, we played against a very good Missouri team that is well coached,” UK head coach Carlos Drada said. “At this level, anyone can beat you and we knew that, so we came with a lot of energy and intensity. We executed very well. Some of our girls played their best match of the year today. I’m very excited as to what that tells us for the weeks to come and hopefully we can stay healthy, think the right things and continue to improve.”
The Tigers fell to 8-11 overall and 0-7 in the SEC as Kentucky won its third straight league contest.
Paired together for the second time this weekend in doubles, Kentucky’s Aldila Sutjiadi and Mami Adachi had an incredible start and did not give up a single set in the match until after they won their seventh set in a row. The duo would go on to win their doubles match, 8-1.
Kelsey Dieters and Edmée Morin-Kougoucheff clinched the doubles point for the Wildcats with an 8-4 win of their own at the No. 3 court to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead going into the singles portion of the contest.
Even though their match did not finish at No. 2 doubles, Kirsten Lewis and Nadia Ravita led 7-2 after they opened the match with a 6-0 advantage.
In singles, Adachi was first to come away with a win on court four. She defeated Brianna Lashway of Missouri, 6-4, 6-1, to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. Adachi improved to 15-2 on the season and 6-1 in SEC action.
It didn’t take long for Sutjiadi to come out victorious over Cassidy Spearman with a 6-3, 6-3 finish to increase Kentucky’s lead to 3-0. The win at No. 2 singles put UK one match shy of the victory.
After dropping the first set, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Ravita came roaring back in the second set without losing a single game to take the set 6-0 and send the match to a third set. Ravita came up just short in the end, 6-3, and gave Missouri their only point of the match.
Senior Kelsey Dieters clinched the match for Kentucky with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles to give the Wildcats a 4-1 lead.
The remaining singles matches were still played, and both Lewis and Morin-Kougoucheff came away with wins to make the final score 6-1. Lewis earned a 6-3, 6-4 win on court five, while Morin-Kougoucheff posted a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
Kentucky travels to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to take on the Crimson Tide on Friday, March 27 at 6 p.m. ET. That begins a two match road stretch before the Wildcats return to the Boone Center on April 3 to face SEC foe and national powerhouse No. 2 Florida at 6 p.m. ET.
