Siefert Selected to SEC Men’s Swimming & Diving Community Service Team

COLUMBIA, Mo. –  University of Kentucky swimmer Hank Siefert has been selected to the 2020-21 Southeastern Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Community Service Team for his commitment to the Lexington, Kentucky, community and superior service efforts, it was announced on Wednesday morning.
 
Siefert, a senior and Xenio, Ohio, native, has accumulated more than 25 hours of community service during his time at the University of Kentucky. In his three-and-a-half years as a student-athlete, he has donated more than eight hours to the Habitat for Humanity, more than five hours with the Lexington Fayette-Urban County Government Coldstream Park project, more than five hours volunteering at the Central Kentucky Free to Breathe 5K Run & Walk, more than three hours spending time with children at the Kentucky Children’s Hospital, more than two hours at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, and more than two hours through the Let’s Get Moving campaign.
 
In his most recent volunteer activity, Siefert spent more than three hours on a Zoom call with ill children staying at the Kentucky Children’s Hospital to create conversation and lift their spirits. In addition to his own volunteer activities, as a team captain, he has also spent this season being an exemplary leader both in and out of the pool.
 
Siefert qualified for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 400-meter freestyle. In fact, the senior holds the school record in the event, touching the wall in 3:51.84 in 2018. He also shares the school record in the 200-meter freestyle in 1:49.67 in 2018. In college swimming, Siefert owns the second-fastest time in program records in the 500-yard freestyle, setting a time of 4:18.20 in 2018.
 
The team captain is a three-year SEC Academic Honor Roll student and a 2018 CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention.
 
Last night, Siefert helped the 800 freestyle relay team earn the ninth-fastest time in the nation in 6:19.53. He swam the anchor leg in a 1:35.47 split.
