Kentucky’s spring season finale against Belmont on Saturday, April 25 — which was originally scheduled to start at 7 p.m. — has been moved up to a Noon kickoff at the Wendell and Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.
Spring Season Outlook
Kentucky enters the spring schedule on the heels of a bounce-back 2014 season.
UK won 10 games – having lost just one game in conference play all year – and boasted three top-25 wins, including one at top-ranked and defending National Champion Notre Dame.
UK lost one regular starter from the 2014 NCAA Tournament team – Justin Laird – while the rest of the starting 11 is slated to return in 2015.
The Wildcats’ 2014 season was also highlighted by head coach Johan Cedergren being voted C-USA Coach of the Year, while goalkeeper Callum Irving was named C-USA Player of the Year, Defensive MVP, Golden Glove Award winner and first-team All-Conference.
Irving became the fourth Wildcat in program history to be named an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He also became the third Wildcat in school history to be named a NSCAA Scholar All-American.
Kentucky had four players named NSCAA All-Region in 2014, and three of them – Irving, midfielder Napo Matsoso and defender Jordan Wilson – return to the 2015 squad.
Kentucky never had more than three players selected NSCAA All-Region prior to last season.
UK had three All-C-USA first-teamers, and one player named to the second and third teams each. Additionally two of UK’s freshmen, Hampus Agerstrom and Stefan Stojkovic were voted to the C-USA All-Freshman team.
Kentucky’s regular starting 11 during the 2014 season featured seven underclassmen and three juniors.
