Edrick Floréal Named Southeast Region Coach of the Year

June 8, 2015

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky track and field head coach Edrick Floréal has been named 2015 Southeast Region Coach of the Year and Kendra Harrison repeated as Southeast Track Athlete of the Year. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced regional awards for the outdoor season on Monday.

Floréal, in his third year heading the Kentucky program, qualified 13 entries for the NCAA’s finals — the most among region teams and is ranked No. 3 in the country. Kentucky finished third at the Southeastern Conference Championships — its best finish since 1982.

Floréal picked up Southeast Region Head Coach of the Year for the second time in as many years as he claimed the same honor for the 2014 indoor season.

Harrison won the same honor last outdoor season. The senior will contest the NCAA 100-meter hurdles and 400m hurdles later this week as the top seed from the East Preliminary Championships in both events and could also participate in the 4x400m relay.

Harrison won the 100m hurdles and took second in the 400m hurdles at the Southeastern Conference Championships in May. She won the SEC and NCAA 60m hurdles during the indoor season. Her NCAA-winning 7.87 60m hurdles time ranks third in college history–the same place she has on the outdoor short hurdles all-time list after her 12.50 en route to the SEC Title.

Kentucky will begin the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Wednesday.
