COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 21/15 University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in the 14th annual Ohio State Fall Invite Nov. 21-23.
“We always look forward to competing at this meet,” said head coach Lars Jorgensen. “It’s annually a good midseason test for us as we get to compete against some top teams in the nation in both short and long course. It’s always our goal at this meet, and is this season, to get a few automatic NCAA qualification marks as we prepare to be competitive in March.”
Hosted at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, the women’s field includes No. 15 Kentucky, No. 17 Notre Dame, Ohio, hosts No. 14 Ohio State, No. 25 UCLA, Virginia Tech, Yale and Buffalo. The men’s field includes No. 21 Kentucky, No. 13 Notre Dame, hosts No. 16 Ohio State, No. 19 Virginia Tech and Yale. How it Works
- Prelim events will be swum in long-course meters. Finals events will be swum in short-course yards.
- Swimmers may swim in a total of four individual events and in every relay.
- There will be no relay prelim heats, all relays will be swum in finals. Teams can submit as many relay teams as they wish per relay event. Only two relay entries per team can be scored in a relay event.
- Ten lanes will be swum at prelims and at finals.
- Coaches will determine the number of heats that will be swum for swimming finals, with a minimum of three heats. Accordingly, at least 30 swimmers will advance from prelims to finals.
- The top 30 swimmers who place in finals will score.
- The top eight divers from prelims will advance to finals and will score.
- Individual and team scoring will be tracked. Team scoring will be a combination of swimming and diving scores.
The men’s team (2-4) has recorded seven time stamps this season that rank among the nation’s top 25 performances in their respective events. Four of those seven performances are relay events, while three of the four relay events have earned top-10 marks – the 400-yard freestyle relay, the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay.
Of the seven time stamps ranked in the top 25, senior Peter Wetzlar is credited with six of the seven ranked times. He has contributed to all four ranked relays, and he also boasts the ninth-fastest 100-yard freestyle time (43.83) and the 14th-fastest 50-yard free style mark (20.01).
The women’s team (5-3) has charted an impressive 17 events that are ranked in the nation’s top 25. Leading the way, junior Bailey Bonnett owns the seventh-best 400-yard individual medley time in the nation (4:12.26) and freshman Caitlin Brooks owns the seventh-best 100-yard backstroke time in the nation (53.02).
