HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Coming off its biggest offensive outburst versus a major opponent since its 1991 inaugural season, surging No. 15 Kentucky (10-2-3, 3-1-1 Conference USA) is set for a top-25 showdown 130 miles eastbound on Interstate 64 at No. 20 Marshall (11-2-3, 3-1-1 C-USA) on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.

The Wildcats and Thundering Herd sit in a tie for third place in the C-USA standings with two matches remaining on each team’s schedule, meaning Sunday’s matchup will be a key factor in crowning the C-USA regular season champion.

Kentucky needs back-to-back victories to earn at least a share of the title, while Marshall will be guaranteed an outright championship if it does the same. If either side records a loss or draw, the championship will be decided between No. 18 Charlotte and No. 13 FIU.

Kentucky erupted for a 7-1 win over Wright State last Wednesday, marking the program’s most goals scored versus a Division I adversary since a 7-0 win over Eastern Michigan on Oct. 6, 1991. Seven different scorers got on the board, marking the first career goals for sophomores Marcel Meinzer, Mason Visconti and Elijah Borneo, as well as freshman Jansen Wilson.

Daniel Evans recorded his team-best seventh goal of the season versus the Raiders, Aimé Mabika logged his third, and Colin Innes notched his second. Wilson, Meinzer, Evans and Innes were credited with one assist apiece.

Kentucky has outscored its opponents 15-3 over a four-match winning streak, including 11-1 in its last two outings.

Marshall is set to return to Hoops Family Field for the first time in seven matches, having tied that same Wright State squad 2-2 in Dayton, Ohio, on Oct. 22. The Herd followed the result with a 1-0 loss to C-USA bottom dweller Florida Atlantic before earning a 2-1 win at Oakland last Tuesday.

Kentucky defeated Marshall twice last season and holds a 21-8-3 command of the all-time head-to-head series.
