No. 17 Kentucky to Face No. 11 Xavier in Midweek Match
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Riding the momentum of its first shutout of the season in its last outing, No. 17 Kentucky (2-1) is set to host No. 11 Xavier (3-0) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.
The Wildcats enter Wednesday on the heels of a 2-0 victory over Tulsa last Friday. 2019 Conference USA Preseason Co-Offensive Player of the Year Jason Reyes scored the second goal of his sophomore campaign just over three minutes into the contest, while forward Daniel Evans polished the victory over the Golden Hurricane with his first goal off an assist from Clay Holstad in the 59th minute.
Xavier visits Lexington as the Cats’ most highly ranked opponent thus far. Despite being left off the United Soccer Coaches Preseason National Rankings, the Musketeers opened the season with a 3-0 win over Akron on Aug. 30 and followed the feat with wins over Eastern Illinois and crosstown rival Cincinnati.
Kentucky and Xavier have met 14 times since 1991, including each of the past three seasons. UK holds a 7-5-2 lead in the all-time head-to-head series, though each of the last two meetings have resulted in ties.
