Will Shaner 12th and Eighth for U.S. at World University Games

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a freshman campaign in which he was named Great American Rifle Conference Rookie of the Year, Will Shaner finished 12th in men’s air rifle and eighth in the mixed team event at the 2019 World University Games in Naples, Italy representing the United States Team.

“What a great opportunity and proud performance for Will on this stage,” head coach Harry Mullins said. “Will had a great freshman season. It’s a testament to his hard work and talent to have earned this honor to represent Team USA abroad and proud of the way he represented at this international event.”
 
The shooting sports were contested July 4-9.

Shaner fired a with a 624 in the men’s air rifle. Shooting alongside Georgia Southern’s Rosemary Kramer in the mixed doubles on July 9 the U.S. team placed eighth.
 
Shaner was First Team All-America and All-Conference in air rifle, smallbore and combined as a freshman in 2018-19.
 
The Summer World University Games are an international university and cultural event held every two years in a different city. Drawing thousands of student-athletes, the Games are one of the largest multi-sport events in the world.
