Women’s Soccer Charts Seventh Clean Sheet in 1-0 Win at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 13 University of Kentucky women’s soccer team got an 11th-minute goal from sophomore Katy Keen and a seventh clean sheet on the season from freshman keeper Katelyn Jensen in a 1-0 win at Alabama on Friday night.

With the win, Kentucky stays in first place in the Southeastern Conference with a perfect 2-0-0 record through two rounds, and moves to 7-1-1 on the season overall. The Crimson Tide fall to 3-4-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the league this season.

The match’s lone goal came in the 11th minute as Keen got her favorite left foot on a corner kick re-fire from junior Kaitlin Miller. The ball was played by Miller from about 30 yards from goal on UK’s right side of the attack and perfectly placed to the far post, where Keen was making a run and finished. 

Kentucky ended up with a 13-5 shot output advantage over Alabama, led by four from junior Zoe Swift. UK got three shots from Keen and three from senior Courtney Raetzman. UK ended up with an 8-5 edge in corners, while only conceding one shot on goal the whole night to the Alabama defense. 

Freshman goalkeeper Katelyn Jensen only was forced to make one save tonight on five Crimson Tide shots total. She recorded her seventh clean sheet in nine matches this season. The Wildcats are 6-0-1 this season when Jensen records a shutout. 

The complexion of the match changed in UK’s favor numbers-wise in the 74th minute as Alabama’s Tori Gann was booked by the center official for the second time in the match (60:05) and was sent off, forcing the Tide to play down a woman for the final 17 minutes of the match.

Kentucky finishes its weekend on Sunday at the Bell Soccer Complex against the Butler Bulldogs at 6 p.m. ET live on the SEC Network+. The match is Kentucky’s annual Kick-Cancer Match, and will be celebrating the return of Chicago Red Star, Arin Gilliland. There will be a live silent auction that will take place following the match, as well as an autograph session with Gilliland following the match.

All proceeds of the evening’s festivities will benefit Dance Blue.
