LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky men’s soccer team will look to build momentum when it hosts Eastern Illinois on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The match will be broadcast live from The Bell on SEC Network+.
The setup
Kentucky broke a string of tough results with a 1-0 win at Marshall last Saturday, to start the conference season on the right foot.
Kentucky is 3-2-1 (W-L-D) this season, and undefeated (1-0-0) in league play. The Wildcats will look to build on that Tuesday as they return to non-conference action.
Napo Matsoso – a MAC Hermann Award Watch List member – scored the winner at Marshall. The goal was his second of the season. Both of his goals have been game-winners.
Goalkeeper Callum Irving – also a Hermann Award Watch List member – kept his second clean sheet of the season, behind a slightly tweaked back-four of Charlie Reymann, Jordan Wilson, Alex Bumpus and Tanner Hummel at Marshall.
Freshman Xahne Reid assisted Matsoso’s goal, after he produced his first career finish midweek, in a loss at East Tennessee State University.
The quote
“We’re excited to play again coming off the win last Saturday,” UK head coach Johan Cedergren said. “We need to keep it going. We know it will be a tough game, but we want to stay undefeated at home.”
The opponent
Kentucky has played Eastern Illinois twice all-time, having won one and lost one. The last time the two teams played UK won 1-0 at home, in 2010.
Eastern Illinois is 2-3-0 this season, having yet to begin Summit League play.
Kentucky and Eastern Illinois have one common opponent: Wright State. Kentucky came back to defeat Wright State, 2-1 in the second match of the year. Wright State defeated Eastern Illinois, 2-0, last week.
