C.J. Conrad Honored for Performance vs. No. 23/25 Mizzou
LEXINGTON, Ky. — After nabbing his first three catches – including a go-ahead touchdown late in the third quarter – Kentucky freshman C.J. Conrad has been named one of two honorable mentions for the John Mackey Tight End of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday.
A native of LaGrange, Ohio, Conrad had a breakout game in his fourth career NCAA contest. He helped spark UK to its first win over a ranked opponent since 2010 with his first three career catches, going for 55 yards. His 24-yard touchdown grab with 1:58 remaining in the third quarter gave UK a 14-10 lead.
Buffalo’s Matt Weiser (10 catches, 131 yards) earned the Mackey Tight End of the Week accolade, with San Jose State’s Billy Freeman joining Conrad as an honorable mention. The John Mackey Award is given annually to the nation’s top tight end at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
Kentucky (3-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) will return to action Saturday, hosting Eastern Kentucky at 7:30 p.m. at The New Commonwealth Stadium. The game will be televised on the SEC Network’s alternate channel and will be broadcast on the UK Sports Radio Network.
