No. 23 Kentucky Ends Home Slate With EKU on Wednesday Night
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After playing its best softball of the season over the weekend and earning a sweep of No. 14 Auburn on Senior Weekend at John Cropp Stadium, Kentucky will turn its attention to its final midweek contest of the 2019 season, as it hosts Eastern Kentucky for UK Athletics’ Staff Appreciation Night.
First pitch is at 6 p.m. ET, with the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and the ESPN app carrying the broadcast live. Dave Baker and former Arizona All-American Jenny Dalton-Hill will have the call from the Bluegrass.
The Wildcats put it all together over the weekend, taking three games from the Tigers in the SEC series of the week. Grace Baalman was sensational, allowing no runs in 14.0 innings of work in the circle – and giving up just four hits. She became the first UK pitcher since 2012 to throw a complete-game one-hit shutout of a ranked SEC team with her 7-0 win on Sunday.
At the plate, Jenny Schaper was on fire – striking for three home runs, including two on her Senior Day to lift the Wildcats to the wins.
Kentucky leads the all-time series with the Colonels, 24-7. The two teams met on April 3, with UK winning, 11-5. The 2018 Wildcats prevailed 10-0 in five innings in the Lexington game, and won 2-1 in a tightly-contested game on the return trip to Richmond the following week. Rachel Lawson is 12-0 all-time at UK against EKU.
