Play Suspended at Shoal Creek Invitational Due to Darkness
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Shoal Creek Invitational was suspended due to darkness at 8:15 p.m. ET on Monday with four players remaining on the course. The Kentucky men’s golf team sits at 8-over par and in 10th place heading into Tuesday.
“Shoal Creek showed its teeth today and it was perfect weather,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “This is a big boy course and we handled it decently well today. Tomorrow will be a long day and I can’t wait. You can get better playing this course.”
Teams will start with a shotgun start on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET, picking up where they finished off on Monday. Once finished with rounds one and two, they will play continuously into round three until finished with the 54 holes.
Senior Lukas Euler birdied three times on Monday and fired a round at even-par after going 2-under par on the back nine. His performance on the back nine gave him his 14th par-or-better round of the season. Sitting in a tie for 16th when play was suspended, Euler is in position for his fourth top-20 finish of the season.
Senior Max Mehles and freshman Cullan Brown each shot a 3-over par 75. Both found success early in their rounds, as Mehles birdied two of the first three holes and Brown birdied holes one and eight.
Senior Fred Allen Meyer sits one back of Mehles and Brown at 4-over par. Meyer birdied four times but went 2-over par both in and out. Senior Matt Liston finished his first round as the sun was setting, as he went 7-over par on the opening 18 holes.
Senior Fadhli Soetarso shot the second-best score of the day for the Wildcats at 2-over par highlighted by his birdies on five and seven. Sophomore Jacob Cook was the only Kentucky golfer to not finish his first round, as he sits at 3-over par through 15 after birdieing four times. Redshirt freshman Zach Norris and junior Allen Hamilton both finished their rounds with the sun dwindling and each ended at 4-over par.
The course is set up as a par 72 over 7,400 yards.
