Meyer Moves Up Leaderboard During Second Round of Hootie

by Deb Moore

AWENDAW, S.C. – Senior Fred Allen Meyer was Kentucky’s biggest mover during the second round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. The Nicholasville, Kentucky, native ascended 31 slots on the leaderboard following a 2-under round of 70 at Bulls Bay Golf Club on Monday.

The Wildcats opened their day on the back nine during Monday’s second round and Meyer quickly found himself in a hole with a bogey on the par-five 13th. However, he steadied his play with pars over his next six holes before he began to make his move.

A birdie at the par-five second evened his round. He then birdied the par-five fourth to get to a stroke under par for the day. Three straight pars followed before another birdie at the par-four eighth. A par on the ninth hole, his version of the 18th, enabled him to finish his round in positive fashion at 2-under for the day and move into a tie for 30th on the leaderboard after opening play in a tie for 61st. Meyer has now generated nine par-or-better rounds this season, including five over his last seven rounds.

The Wildcats are tied for 11th overall alongside Ole Miss. The College of Charleston at 14-under par leads through two rounds. Kent State is second, South Carolina third, Kansas fourth and West Virginia rounds out the top five. Kentucky sits eight shots back of a top-five finish.

Senior Max Mehles is tied for 25th following Monday’s second round. He carded a 1-over, 73, which featured three birdies on the day. He played today’s back nine at 1-under par. Junior Matt Liston charted a round of 74 and is tied for 43rd. Freshman Cullan Brown is tied for 52nd and senior Lukas Euler is tied at 55th following rounds of 75 and 76, respectively on Monday.

The final round resumes on Tuesday at 10 a.m. ET. Live stats are available via birdiefire.com. Bulls Bay Golf Club is playing over a three-day, 54-hole span. It’s a par 72 course and 7,316 yards this week for the 15 team field.
