UKTF’s Abbott and Russell Pick up SEC Weekly Awards

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky track and field’s Chloe Abbott was named Southeastern Conference Runner of the Week, and Masai Russell was Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
 
Abbott made her outdoor 400-meter dash season debut with a NCAA-leading winning time of 51.59 at the UTSA Invitational. She moved to No. 2 on the UK all-time performers’ list behind only Sydney McLaughlin. Abbott won the 200m as well in the second fastest time in the SEC outdoors so far this year, and also ran on UK’s winning 4×4, which ran the second fastest time in the SEC outdoors so far this year.
 
Russell ran an SEC leading 400m hurdles debut – 58.10 to win that event at the UTSA Invitational. She ran the fourth fastest 100m hurdles time in the SEC, 13.76, which leads the conference amongst freshmen as well. She ranks second nationally in the 400 hurdles.
