UK to Commence SEC Home Schedule with Alabama, Auburn
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Splitting its Southeastern Conference-opening road trip 1-1 last weekend, Kentucky is set to return to Boone Tennis Center for its first pair of league matches in front of its home crowd. The Wildcats will host No. 17 Alabama on Friday at 5 p.m. ET before welcoming Auburn on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Admission to both matches will be free to the public, accompanied by complimentary pizza. Fans will also receive an exclusive UK Tennis t-shirt free of charge at both contests.
Last Friday, Kentucky ended a two-match skid with a 4-3 triumph over No. 30 Ole Miss. The victory marked the Cats’ first road win of the season, as well as the first victory over a nationally ranked opponent. UK trailed 3-2 when the match’s final singles bouts came down to third-set decisions. Parth Aggarwal earned a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jan-Soren Hain before senior Enzo Wallart sealed the contest with a 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (2) thriller over Filip Kraljevic.
Kentucky followed the win with a 7-0 loss at No. 8 Mississippi State the very next day. The defeat marked the first time the Cats were on the wrong end of a 7-0 sweep, juxtaposed by two such victories over IUPUI and Northern Kentucky, respectively in their season-opening doubleheader on Jan. 13.
Alabama is coming off a 4-3 home loss to unranked Texas A&M last Sunday. Auburn will play at No. 26 Vanderbilt on Friday before making its way to Lexington. Kentucky defeated both the Crimson Tide and the Tigers on the road last season.
