David, Stoops Challenge Fans to Support SOKY's Polar Plunge
On Tuesday night, men’s basketball senior Jonny David invited 60 Special Olympics Kentucky athletes, their coaches and their family to attend Kentucky’s victory over South Carolina on behalf of UK’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). After enjoying the game, the group came to the floor for a meet-and-greet with David and his teammates.
David, along with Kentucky football head coach Mark Stoops, is encouraging fans to join in supporting Special Olympics Kentucky through its Polar Plunge, which takes place this Saturday at Texas Roadhouse on Richmond Road. Fans can donate by visiting http://stoopsplunge.com.
Last fall, SAAC announced a special partnership with Special Olympics Kentucky through April 2020. Over the next year-and-a-half, SAAC will work to make maximum impact with an organization that creates year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Already, that impact has been felt through Tuesday’s meet-and-greet and an event in December where 60 UK student-athletes bowled with 60 Special Olympics Kentucky athletes.
