LEXINGTON, Ky. – Continuing an outstanding run in the classroom under head coach Golda Johansson Borst, the Kentucky women’s golf team posted better than a 3.0 grade-point average for the 11th straight semester.
The Wildcats, who made an appearance in the NCAA South Bend last spring, notched a cumulative GPA of 3.639 during the fall 2015 semester, one of the highest marks among UK’s 22 varsity sports. Only the women’s tennis team posted a better team GPA this past semester.
The UK women’s golf team has tallied a 3.0 GPA or better in every semester under Borst’s watch.
“I am very proud of how our team battled in the classroom this fall,” Borst said. “We do a great deal of traveling during the semester and that can sometimes make it difficult for the girls. However, they manage their time well and it shows in their grades. I know the countless hours they spend in CATS, and we can’t thank our counselor, Josh Ray, the tutors, and the mentors enough for the work they do to help support our team. This is one of the highest team GPA’s that we have had and I couldn’t be more proud of our group.”
In May, UK posted a four-year composite score of 992 in the NCAA’s annual Academic Progress Rate report, well above the 930 four-year average needed to compete in the 2015-16 championships. The NCAA’s APR measures academic eligibility and retention of student-athletes. The four-year composite score covers the 20010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic years.
The Wildcats’ 2015-16 season resumes Jan. 31 vs. Louisville.
