No. 20 Kentucky Travels to No. 2 Vanderbilt Saturday
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 20 Kentucky women’s tennis team will continue its Southeastern Conference schedule on Saturday, traveling to Nashville to take on stiff competition in No. 2 Vanderbilt. First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET at the Currey Tennis Center.
Kentucky (12-6, 4-4 SEC) looks to move above .500 in SEC play and earn its first top five win of the season in the match. The Wildcats are coming off a 4-1 victory over No. 37 Tennessee last Sunday inside the Boone Tennis Center. Kentucky won its top four singles courts in the match to seal the victory.
In the rankings, senior Mami Adachi teams with fellow senior Emily Fanning to form the 41st-ranked duo in the nation. Junior Justina Mikulskyte also comes in at No. 100 in the singles rankings.
Vanderbilt (14-3, 7-1 SEC) enters the match off a 4-1 victory over No. 9 Georgia. The Commodores’ only conference loss of the season came at Mississippi State on March 15. Last season, the Wildcats upset a 10th-ranked Vanderbilt squad with a 4-2 win at home.
VU has two ranked doubles teams in No. 19 Christina Rosca/Emma Kurtz and No. 21 Fernanda Contreras/Astra Sharma. The Commodores’ roster features four ranked singles players: No. 5 Contreras, No. 14 Sharma, No. 39 Rosca and No. 97 Amanda Meyer.
Up next, the Wildcats will return to Lexington for their final home stand of the season. UK will take on LSU at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, before taking on Texas A&M on Saturday, April 7, for Senior Day.
