Kentucky Finishes Fourth at General Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The No. 38 Kentucky men’s golf team finished in fourth place at the General Hackler Championship on Sunday in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. UK finished ahead of five ranked opponents, including No. 12 LSU and No. 26 South Carolina. 
 
The Wildcats totaled an 869 over the weekend, five-over par, and trailed the leader Georgia Tech by 21 strokes. UK finished the day at 5-over par 293. Texas A&M finished second with an 11-under 853, and Virginia jumped UK on the final day after a 12-under 276 for an 859 overall.
 
Four players finished in the top 25 for Kentucky. Of UK’s starters, senior Chip McDaniel carded the best day for UK with a 70, and was the highest-finishing Wildcat after tying for 12th. McDaniel’s 70 was the third-lowest round of the tournament for UK, with classmate Cooper Musselman’s second round score coming in at 69. Max Mehles’ opening round of 67 led all UK players.
 
Mehles, competing as an individual, wrapped up his tournament with an even par 72 to earn his first-ever top-10 finish on the individual leaderboard. He finished with a 3-under 213 and tied for seventh. Mehles had 12 birdies over the three rounds and he earned a tie for seventh overall.
 
Musselman and junior Fred Allen Meyer each finished tied for 22nd with a 217 score. Musselman posted a 72 to wrap up play, while Meyer shot a 73 on day three.
 
Lukas Euler and Matt Liston each posted a 78 on the final day.

McDaniel posted even par on the front nine, but birdied No. 10, No. 11 and No. 13 to get to 3-under par. His only green number was at No. 17, giving him a 34 on the back nine and a 70 overall.
 
Mehles went 1-under on the front nine, logging a red number on hole No. 4. Mehles had two bogeys on the back nine, but got to even par on the par-five No. 15.
 
After a bogey on No. 2, Musselman found red numbers in three of the next four holes to go 2-under on the front nine. Musselman found himself at par with bogeys on No. 14 and No. 18.
 
Meyer had four birdies in his final round, but his five bogeys, including three in the final five holes, put him at 1-over par 73. 

Up Next for Kentucky

The Wildcats will return to action on Friday at the Schenkel Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will feature 36 holes of action on Friday and a final 18 on Saturday.
