Say what you want about John Calipari’s team’s grade-point average this past season (after all, he admitted he would have liked it to have been better in a coachcal.com post), but the guy has one glaring positive that no one is talking about.That is until John Clay wrote about it in Wednesday’s Lexington Herald-Leader. Of the 12 coaches currently employed in the Southeastern Conference, Calipari owns the third-highest Academic Progress Rate in the latest figures released by the NCAA. The figures are based on where each of the current SEC coaches were employed in the 2008-09 academic year, the final year of the most recent four-year span the APR measures. Calipari’s score of 974 ranks third behind Vanderbilt’s Kevin Stallings (980) and Anthony Grant (975). Calipari’s score is taken from his tenure in Memphis.The NCAA target score for each sport is 925.
