Men’s basketball– The Wildcats went 2-0 on the week with wins over Vanderbilt and Tennessee. The win over Vandy cemented a second-straight undefeated season at home for the Cats, going 15-0. UK is currently on a 34-game home-winning streak, the second-longest streak in the country.- Coach John Calipari is 33-0 at Rupp Arena as head coach of the Wildcats.- UK’s win on the road at Tennessee locked in the East’s No. 2 seed and guaranteed Kentucky a first-round bye in the SEC Tournament.Women’s basketball– UK Hoops advanced to its second straight SEC Tournament championship after defeating LSU and Vanderbilt.- The 16th-ranked Cats met No. 4 Tennessee in the finals for the third time in school history and despite forcing 22 turnovers and outrebounding the taller Lady Vols, the Cats couldn’t overcome UT’s hot shooting from beyond the arc. UT hit a school-record 16 3-pointers en route to a 90-65 win.- Victoria Dunlap, who averaged 19.3 points and 9.0 rebounds in the three games, was named to the All- Tournament team for the second consecutive season.Softball– Kentucky went 3-0 at the Coach B Classic hosted by Southern Illinois to improve to 14-3 overall on the year. The 14 wins in its first 17 games marks the best start to a season in program history.- Freshman pitchers Ellen Weaver and Lauren Cumbess both picked up victories in the circle. The pair also set career highs with 10 strikeouts in wins over Southern Illinois-Carbondale and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, respectivley.- Cumbess also hit her first career home run in the win over SIUE. Junior Brittany Cervantes hit her teamleading sixth long ball of the year in that same win.Baseball– The baseball team continued a stout early season schedule, traveling to the prestigious Houston College Classic, hosted by the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. UK lost a pair of tightly contested games vs. the home-standing No. 17 Rice Owls and the HoustonCougars, before outdueling red-hot and tournament unbeaten Utah in a 2-1 game on Sunday.- Kentucky suffered the two close losses, falling to the Owls on Friday night 8-7, as UK rallied from behind against Rice from a 7-2 deficit. UK got a homer from Braden Kapteyn in the game, the first homer in the first 25 innings at Minute Maid Park on the weekend, with Kapteyn having a career weekend in terms of reaching base safely, touching first base in 11-of-13 plate appearances. On Saturday, UK fell in a late hole to Houston before rallying with runs in the seventh and eighth in an 8-5 loss, with Luke Maile belting a homer.- The Wildcats rebounded on Sunday, using a career outing from junior right-handed starter Jordan Cooper, who posted a career-high nine strikeouts in seven innings, allowing only three hits and one run. Cooper turned the ball over to freshman Trevor Gott with a 2-1 lead, with Gott hurling two shutout innings for his first career save, allowing only one hit and strikingout four. UK’s run production came from Kapteyn, who scored both UK runs in the win andtripled with one out in the eighth inning to set the stage for the go-ahead run.Gymnastics– Behind one of the best all-around scores in school history from senior Andrea Mitchell, the 26th-ranked UK gymnastics team posted a season-high score of 195.650 to defeat George Washington (194.100) and Bowling Green (193.800) in its home finale Friday night.- Kentucky had an event medalist on each event, including Mitchell, who took home event honors on uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise en route to her second all-around title of the year. The native of Knoxville, Tenn., posted a career-high 39.550 in the all-around competition, which is the highest score for a UK gymnast since All-American Jenny Hansenearned a 39.65 in 1996.- As a team, Kentucky defeated George Washington and Bowling Green on three events. UK used a season-high bar score of 49.325 to win on bars, tying the highest team bars score in school history. UK also defeated GW and BGSU on vault with a score of 49.05 andbeam with a season-best mark of 48.875. In all, Kentucky set or tied 11 season highs and nine career highs during the meet.Men’s tennis– Kentucky opened up SEC play in style with a historic road victory, posting its first win over the Rebels in Oxford, Miss., since the 1988 season. Ole Miss (5-3, 0-1 SEC) has been nearly unbeatable at home since the year 2000, earning a 125-12 record.- The Wildcats continued its momentum Sunday by defeating No. 43 Mississippi State 6-1 behind claiming the doubles point and winning five singles matches. Kentucky is now 8-0 this season when it wins the doubles point.- UK received several good performances throughout the weekend, getting two singles wins each from senior Alberto Gonzalez, juniors Eric Quigley and Alex Musialek, and sophomore Anthony Rossi. Musialek defeated two ranked players on the weekend, taking down No. 92 Artem Ilyushin and No. 101 Tucker Vorster.Women’s tennis– The women’s tennis team opened SEC action by splitting its first two matches at home. UK dropped a 7-0 match to Ole Miss before handing Missisippi State a 6-1 defeat.- Sophomore Jessica Stiles and freshman Caitlin McGraw each picked up their team-leading sixth wins of the spring season against the Bulldogs.- UK dropped just four games combined in its sweep of the doubles point against MSU.Upcoming schedule
