ATHENS, Ga. – Kentucky track and field freshman Jasmine Quinn and alumnae Kendra Harrison turned the attention of the sport to their hurdles race at Georgia’s Spec Towns Invitational on Friday.
In all on Friday, two UK alumni won events, two Wildcats placed as the top collegian in their events, Harrison ran the world-leading time and Quinn lowered her NCAA-leading time.
Quinn bettered her 100-meter hurdles personal best, which as aforementioned leads the NCAA early this season, to 12.97 (+1.4).
She placed second to UK Class of 2015’s Harrison who opened her outdoor season with an astonishing time of 12.36. Not only was it a personal best for the 2015 World Championships semifinalist, USATF Silver Medalist and NCAA Champion in the event, but it was also the fastest recorded season-opener in history. It ranks No. 5 in American history and No. 9 on the 100m hurdles all-time list.
Wildcats went 1-2-3 in the 100m hurdles as Jacklyn Howell placed third in 13.14. UK head coach Edrick Floreal coaches all three of those hurdlers.
Wildcats went 1-2 in the women’s long jump. Alumnae (Class of 2015) Kenyattia Hackworth, who drove down to Athens with Harrison and fellow-professional Leah Nugent, won with a PR 21’8″/6.60m (+1.6).
Sha’Keela Saunders placed second at 21’2″/6.45m (+2.1). Both were opening their outdoor season. UK freshman Marie-Josée Ebwea-Bile placed fourth at a season-best 19’9.5″/6.03m (+3.4).
Fred Dorsey was second overall, and the top collegian, in the long jump with a mark of 24’9.25″7.55m (+1.7).
David Cline placed fifth in the hammer throw with a PR mark of 201’6”/61.41m. Logan Bryer was seventh at 195’8”/59.64m.
Beckie Famurewa had a good day in the hammer throw and discus as she placed second in the hammer at 194’9”/59.36m and third in the discus at 182’9”/55.71m.
Adriana Brown was fourth in the discus at 175’7”/53.53m. Brandi Walker was eighth in the hammer at 176’7″/ 53.83m
Tim Layten ran a four-second PR 3:53.68 to place sixth in the 1,500m.
The Spec Towns Invitational will conclude on Saturday.
