Wildcats Host First Home Outdoor Meet of 2026 at Jim Green Invitational
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Wildcats are set for their first of two home outdoor meets this month this week with the start of the Jim Green Invitational at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex on May 1-2.
Last time out, the Wildcats broke three school records, posted 13 top 10 program marks, five event wins and a No. 1 NCAA mark at the Tom Jones Memorial and the Wake Forest Invitational. Senior triple jumper Theo Mudzengerere highlighted the week in Florida by breaking Luke Brown men’s triple jump record in his first outdoor appearance in a Kentucky uniform. The UK senior won the event with a career-best distance of 16.83m/55-2.75, launching him into the No. 1 spot in the NCAA rankings.
Freshman Doricah Minsari Isoe and junior Ed Bird both posted historic marks in the men’s and women’s 1500m races at the Wake Forest Invite. Minasri Isoe improved her Kentucky school record time to 4:10.34 and Bird moved from 10th all-time to break a 12-year record, previously held by Matt Hillenbrand in 2014. Bird improved his career-best time by over four seconds and now holds the fifth-best mark in the NCAA this season at 3:38.38.
Following the week in Gainesville and Winston-Salem, Kentucky currently features 14 athletes, including two relay teams, ranking inside the top 20 in their respective events.
This week, the Wildcats will be competing across 38 events on home turf for the first time this season, facing a plethora of in-state opponents, including Asbury, Bellarmine, Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky State, Louisville, Morehead State, Pikeville and Union.
The Jim Green Invitational will kick off tomorrow at noon ET with the women’s hammer throw event and concluding with the men’s 3000m steeplechase at 6:45 p.m. ET.
