Mudzengerere Breaks Triple Jump Record on Final Day of Tom Jones Invitational
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Kentucky Wildcats concluded the final day of the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational today, combining for a school record, four event wins, six more top 10 program marks.
Theo Mudzengerere highlighted the Wildcats results this afternoon in Gainesville by breaking Luke Brown men’s triple jump record in his first outdoor appearance in a Kentucky uniform. The UK senior won the event with a career-best distance of 16.83m/55-2.75, also launching him into the No. 1 spot in the NCAA rankings.
The Wildcats completed the sweep of the pole vault events this week, as Annie Murphy won the women’s half to kick off day three. With today’s mark, Murphy moves into sixth all-time in the UK record books with a career-best height of 4.15m/13-7.25.
Emmi Scales and Camden Bentley both advanced to the women’s 100m hurdles final, with Scales placing third at 12.94 and Bentley finishing seventh with a career-best time of 13.04, the ninth-fastest time in school history. Scales would go on to win the final with a time of 12.88, earning her second outdoor win of the season.
After winning in her return to the 800m event at the Texas Relays, Janet Jepkemboi Amimo placed fourth in today’s race with a season-best time of 2:00.67, moving her into a share of fifth in the national ranks for the season.
In the women’s 400m event, A’Laji Bradley and Hannah Douglas both produced top 10 program marks, moving into fourth and fifth place on the UK all-time list, respectively. Bradley placed fourth in the event with a time of 51.15 and Douglas finished sixth with a time of 51.31.
The Cats closed out the week in the men’s and women’s 4x400m relays. The women’s team, consisting of Bradley, Douglas, Vanice Kerubo Nyagisera and Cha’iel Johnson, finished atop the leaderboard with the eighth-fastest time in program history at 3:27.21. in the men’s final, Kentucky placed … with a time of 3:07.31.
Next up, the Wildcats will play host to the annual Jim Green Invitational at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex on May 1-2.
