COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Members of the Kentucky rifle team completed competition at the USA Shooting Junior Olympics on Tuesday.
The Wildcats depart Colorado Springs with a pair of medal finishes. Freshman Hanna Carr claimed the Gold Medal in three-position smallbore rifle on Sunday, while sophomore Billy Azzinaro claimed Bronze in three-position smallbore earlier last week.
On Tuesday, Carr used a second-day 418.4 to qualify for the 10-meter air rifle final with a two-day score of 826.2. She shot 79.7 in the final to total 827.2, and finish seventh overall.
“I am proud of the effort Hanna gave today to get the 418.4 just to make it into the final,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “It shows that she never gives up moving from 31st-place the first day into the top eight. She has a tremendous drive to compete.
“I felt all our young women did well, with some really good performances at times. We just need to work on making adjustments sooner during the match.”
Freshman Carmen Fry placed 24th (817.3).
Jenna Bethea placed 35th (812.6), Cathryn Papasodora placed 36th (812.2).
“Overall it was a good Junior Olympics for Kentucky rifle,” Mullins said. “It says a lot to get Wildcats on both the men’s and women’s podiums.”
