Wildcats Travel to No. 25 Indiana for Midweek Tilt

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a dramatic walk-off series victory over No. 2 South Carolina on Sunday, the Kentucky baseball team returns to the field on Tuesday in a midweek tilt at No. 25 Indiana. UK will tangle with the Hoosiers at 5 p.m. ET at Bill Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Ind.
The game will be broadcast live on the UK Sports Radio Network. Fans in Central Kentucky can hear the games live on Fox Sports Radio 1580-AM, in Louisville on WKJK 1080-AM and online at UKathletics.com. Neil Price will handle the call of the game.
Kentucky (29-19, 13-11 Southeastern Conference) and No. 25 Indiana (28-17, 13-5 Big Ten) will meet for just the 37th time on Tuesday evening.  UK holds the lead in the series with a 19-17 mark against the Hoosiers. The last time the two sides played was March 31, 2015 in which the Hoosiers earned an 11-7 win at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
Indiana owns the outright lead in the Big Ten standings. Indiana picked up a series-clinching win over No. 19 Minnesota on Sunday behind a 3-2 victory. The Hoosiers have been hot recently, winning five of their last six games and 16 of their last 20.
Indiana’s starting pitcher vs. UK will be righthander Jonathan Stiever, who has a 1-1 record and 2.67 ERA. Sophomore lefthander Zach Logue, who has a 2-1 record and 3.18 ERA, is slated to start on the mound for the Wildcats.
UK is returning to the field for the first time since senior outfielder Dorian Hairston hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the 12th inning, lifting the Wildcats to a 5-4 win and a series win over No. 2 South Carolina on Sunday at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
Sean Hjelle improved to 4-0 on the year after tossing the final four innings of the game in his longest outing of the season. The freshman right-hander limited the Gamecocks to two hits and three walks, while striking out five to pick up the win. He was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week for that performance.
Kentucky only had five hits in Sunday’s finale – but three were in the round-tripper format, including Hairston’s game-winner.
First baseman Evan White leads the bats for the Wildcats with a .362 average on the season. White leads the team in doubles (12), runs (39), RBI (34) and stolen bases (9). Third baseman JaVon Shelby leads UK and the SEC in home runs with 11.  As a team, Kentucky is batting .271 on the year and have accounted for 44 home runs and 36 stolen bases.
Outfielder Logan Sowers paces the IU offense with a .308 batting average. Shortstop Brian Wilhite is batting .288 with a team-high eight home runs and 37 RBI. As a team, Indiana is utilizing a .267 batting average and have accounted for 115 extra-base hits on the year.  Indiana is 44-of-65 in stolen bases on the season and is led by 13 swipes from outfielder Alex Krupa, who is also contributing a .301 average and 19 runs scored.
