The University of Kentucky volleyball team fell to the USA National Team Monday night in an exhibition match in three games, 15-10, 15-8, 15-7.
The Wildcats (12-6, 3-2 SEC) were led by seniors Jenny Muzzey and LaTanya Webb with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Junior outside hitter Katie Eiserman also had a solid performance, recording 13 kills and six digs in the losing effort for Kentucky. Freshman setter Whitney Sample had a match-high 40 assists and to go along with four digs.
“I was pleased with how we competed,” UK coach Jona Braden said. “We worked hard for every point and every side out. It was a challenge and an honor to have the opportunity to play the USA National Team.”
Team USA was led by Makare Desilets’ 16 kills, seven digs and .429 hitting percentage. Kara Milling also provided an offensive spark, racking up 13 kills on the night.
Kentucky will return to action this weekend when it plays host to SEC opponents South Carolina (16-2, 4-1 SEC) and Georgia (4-10, 2-3 SEC). The Wildcats will host the Lady Gamecocks of South Carolina on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m., and wrap up the weekend series against the Bulldogs of Georgia on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. in UK’s Memorial Coliseum.
