The University of Kentucky women’s volleyball team has signed two freshmen for the upcoming season, Coach Jona Braden announced Tuesday. Meghan Stout and Whitney Sample have signed national letters-of-intent to play for the Wildcats.
Stout, a 5-9 outside hitter from Seymour, Ind., lettered for four years at Seymour High School. As a captain during her junior and senior years, Stout twice earned MVP honors while leading her team to a 112-20 record during her four years. Stout was named All-State her junior and senior years and All-Conference during her sophomore, junior and senior years. She completed her senior campaign with a 100 percent setting percentage, going 28 for 28 in the category.
“Meghan is just such a solid all-around player,” Braden said. “She is going to bring a very solid, refined student-athlete that plays the game well. I think we’ll be able to use her in several areas.”
Sample, a 5-8 setter from Arlington, Texas, helped lead her Martin High School team to a 42-1 record during her career. A letter winner during her junior and senior years, Sample earned honors as a 1997 All-District Outstanding Setter. In 1996, she was a member of the Martin team that claimed a Texas State 5A Championship.
“Whitney will bring a lot of experience and enthusiasm to our team,” Braden said. “Shes going to be a player that is going to be able to step on the floor and compliment what were already doing.”
