GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team dropped another heartbreaker on Sunday, falling 2-1 to Appalachian State in the Greensboro Soccer Classic.

Appalachian State (5-1-0) struck early, as Naoshi Yamauchi found the net just eight minutes into the game, giving ASU a 1-0 lead. Kentucky managed to pull even before the half, when Lee Baker headed a Brent Rainey cross past the ASU keeper in the 41st minute. The game appeared to be headed for overtime when ASU was awarded a penalty kick with just 11 minutes remaining in regulation. Mark Hemphill capitalized for the Mountaineers, burying the shot to give ASU the 2-1 victory.

With the loss, the Cats fall to 0-5-0 on the season. UK will look for its first win of the season this Friday, when the Cats host The Citadel in the Kentucky Invitational Soccer Tournament. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
