LEXINGTON, Kty. – The 20th-ranked University of Kentucky men’s tennis team (16-10, 4-7) fell to the second-ranked team in the nation, LSU, 6-1 Sunday at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center.

The Wildcats battled it out in the doubles competition and surfaced with a win at number three. UK’s senior Dan Spaner and newcomer Edo Bawono defeated LSU’s Pedro Braga and Pedro Escudero. Kentucky lost the doubles point when LSU claimed wins at number one and number two. In singles action, No. 6 UK senior Cedric Kauffmann and No. 8 LSU’s Michal Chmela put on a show at number one. Kauffmann prevailed after he pounced on Chmela in the third set bringing the final score to 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-0. This is their second meeting this season; Kauffmann defeated Chmela 6-1, 6-1 in the consolation final of the All-Americans in Dallas, Texas, last October. Kauffmann holds a 8-2 record over SEC opponents this season. The Wildcats will see action next weekend when they travel to Auburn, Ala., for the SEC Championships April 16-18.
