LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky (2-0) will look to stay unbeaten this weekend as they travel to Conway, S.C., for a two-game series with Coastal Carolina (0-2). The two teams will play Saturday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. and at noon on Sunday, Feb. 15.
UK is off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 1991. The Wildcats swept a pair of games in the College Sports Classic in Phoenix, Ariz., last weekend. UK notched a season-opening win over New Mexico State after scoring five runs in the ninth inning. The Wildcats upset No. 6 Oklahoma State 5-4 the following day.
Senior 2B David Cheatle went 5-for-9 in the two games with two RBIs and three runs scored. Sophomore 3B Aaron McGlone chipped in three hits, including two doubles against Oklahoma State. Junior Jason Chaney and and sophomore Josh Paxton provided the Wildcats with solid starting pitching. Chaney and Paxton each pitched five innings, allowing three hits apiece. Senior closer Matt Borne posted saves in each of the two games, not allowing a hit.
Coastal Carolina heads into the weekend after losses to North Carolina (21-8) and The Citadel (11-7). Junior transfer Dorian Cameron leads Coastal Carolina with a .700 batting average. Cameron is 7-for-10 with two doubles and a RBI in two games. Sophomore Steve Tylke is hitting .400 with two homers and seven RBI.
