WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team extended its winning streak to four straight matches with a 7-2 victory over Purdue Saturday.

The Wildcats (12-5, 4-5 SEC) won five singles matches and two doubles contests to earn the victory. UK’s Massoumeh Emami came back to win over 40th-ranked Mary Beth Maggart 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, at No. 1 singles, and Kathy Herring won at No. 3 singles, defeating Erika Quebe 6-1, 7-6.

UK’s No. 4 singles player, Caroline Kirk, battled back from injuries to defeat Shannon Taheny 2-6, 7-6, 6-1. Kirk, who was in the hospital Friday for migraines, drove to the match herself to compete.

UK’s No. 1 doubles team of Emami and Kelly Brown, who carry a No. 24 national ranking, beat the 30th-ranked Boilermaker duo of Maggert and Jennifer Embry, 8-4. UK’s Herring and Brooke Skeen won at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, over Taheny and Quebe.

With the loss, Purdue’s record falls to 7-7.

UK next travels to Indiana on Sunday.
