BALTIMORE, Md. – The University of Kentucky women’s doubles team of Massoumeh Emami and Kelly Brown dropped a heartbreaker at the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships on Friday, falling 0-6, 6-2, 7-5 to Marianna Eberle and Krista Frey of Mississippi.

The UK tandem, ranked sixth in the nation, had reached the quarterfinal match in convincing fashion and seemed on the verge of another easy victory after winning the first set 6-0. But Eberle and Frey took over the match, winning the second set and taking a 4-2 lead in the third. Brown and Emami rallied to tie the match at 5-5, but fell short as they dropped the final two games.

Despite the loss, Coach Mark Guilbeau seemed encouraged.

“This has been a great experience for our team,” he said.

The team returns to action next weekend, when they travel to South Carolina for the USC Invitational.
